"Then Pharaoh said to Yosef, 'Since G-d has informed you of all this, there can be no one so discerning and wise as you. You shall be in charge of my palace and by your command shall all my people be sustained; only by the throne shall I outrank you.'" (Bereshet/Genesis 41:39-40)

Having become known as an interpreter of dreams while incarcerated in an Egyptian prison, Yosef was brought before Pharaoh to decipher the monarch’s own visions. After G-d revealed to Yosef that Pharaoh’s dreams foretold seven years of prosperity followed by seven of famine, Pharaoh elevated the former prisoner to viceroy, ruler over all Egypt, under Pharaoh.
