"Then Esther said to Mordechai, 'Go, assemble all the Jews to be found in Shushan and fast for me. Do not eat or drink for three days, night or day. I, with my maids, will fast also. Then I will go to the King though it’s unlawful, and if I perish, I perish.'" (The Book of Esther 4:15-16)

Esther became Queen of Persia at a time when the Jewish people were held captive there. she became aware of a plot by Haman, the King’s prime minister, to exterminate all Jews within the kingdom. By risking her own life, she brought Haman’s scheme to the King’s attention.

Because of her devotion to G-d and the Jews’ prayer, the plot was foiled and Haman was executed.
