"(Avraham) threw himself upon his face, and G-d spoke with him saying ... “I will ratify my covenant between Me and you, throughout the
generations as an everlasting covenant, to be a G-d to you and to your offspring after you.
" (Bereshet/Genesis 16:3, 7)

The first patriarch of the Jewish people entered the Covenant between the Parts with the Lord G-d, which gave him and his offspring the Promised Land known as Israel. Pairs of rams, goats and heifers were split, creating an aisle. During a prophetic midnight vision, Avraham walked between the parts with emissaries of G-d, manifested as a “smoky furnace” and a “torch of fire.”
