The Illuminated Psalm Series: 27:8
King David speaks of his longing to know God most intimately, face to face, as it were. It is as if his own heart speaks as his Creator’s emissary. He listens to his heart’s desire, implanted by the Lord of all worlds, and with conscious awareness of his deepest inner truth, he obeys and responds affirmatively.
His will is God’s will for him. This is a reciprocal calling to unite. So often our hearts want one thing and our minds another, as if inner and outer worlds are split — and drift apart. Here, one longing alone permeates his reality.
This month, let us engage the imagination in deepening our spirituality. In our daily lives we can imagine that the Source of life is calling us within our hearts, as if our hearts were the loudspeaker of the soul, “Seek Me, seek My Presence.” And wherever we are, we can respond in our minds, “I do seek Your Presence. I really do and I really am!” In this way, mind and heart can be aligned in one purpose.
